Baby flashcards, used together
A calm way to use baby flashcards.
Start with something familiar: food. This short activity uses the free First Words starter group in Professor Ary. Sit together, name one picture at a time, and stop whenever attention moves on. There is no score or answer to get right.

Try the free five-card food round.
You need only the app and a quiet moment together. The First Words food starter is a ready-made group, so there is no deck to build or account to create.
- 01
Open the First Words starter
In the card library, open First Words and its free food starter group. Begin the guided round of five pictures. Leave the larger library for another day.
- 02
Name the picture, then leave a pause
When the apple appears, say “apple” in your own voice. Play the spoken label if you want to hear it again. Leave room for looking, pointing, or a reply; repeating the word is optional.
- 03
Take the idea back to everyday life
Finish the round or stop earlier. When you next notice a familiar food at home, name it together without asking for a correct answer. You can revisit the same starter another time.

Baby flashcard questions
How long should a flashcard round be?
Professor Ary uses short guided groups. You can finish one round or stop earlier whenever attention moves on.
Does my child use the app alone?
Professor Ary is designed for caregiver-led practice: the adult looks, names, listens, and repeats together with the child.
What if my child just looks or points?
That is enough for this shared activity. Name the picture naturally, leave a pause, and follow their interest. There is no required response, score, or promise of a learning outcome.
